LocalePulse / Pest control / Google Business Profile
Guide for Australian pest control businessesYour Google Business Profile is often the first thing a homeowner sees before they ring. These are the fixes that matter most, based on Google's own rules.
For a pest control Google Business Profile, get five things right: your real business name with no added keywords or suburbs, the most specific primary category (usually "Pest control service"), a service area that matches where you actually work, a full services list with a short description for each, and a plain description of up to 750 characters with no links, prices or promotions. Then ask every customer for a review and reply to the reviews you get.
The checklist, field by field
| Field | What to do | Google's rule or guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Business name | Use the name on your van, invoices and signage. | Your name should reflect the real-world name used on your signage, website and stationery. Adding unnecessary information ("Example Pest Co Termites Penrith") isn't permitted and can lead to suspension. |
| Primary category | The most specific one that fits, usually "Pest control service". | Use as few categories as possible. Pick ones that complete "This business IS a…", not a list of everything you offer. |
| Service area | List the suburbs or regions you really cover. If customers don't visit your premises, don't show a street address. | Google says service-area businesses should hide their business address, and a service area generally shouldn't extend beyond about 2 hours' drive from where you're based. |
| Services | Add every service you offer, with a one-line description each. | Use Edit services to add suggested or custom services. Custom service names can't include prices, phone numbers or gibberish. |
| Description | Who you help, main services, area, how to get a quote. Put the key points first. | Up to 750 characters. No links of any kind, no promotions, prices or sales. |
| Hours and phone | Match how you actually take calls, and make sure the number is answered or has a clear voicemail. | Keep information accurate and up to date. |
| Reviews | Share your review link or QR code with every customer and reply to reviews. | No incentives, no asking only happy customers. See the Google reviews guide. |
| Photos | Real photos of your van, team (with their permission) and work. No customer faces or identifiable addresses without consent. | Content must be genuine and relevant to the business. |
| Questions and answers | Answer any existing questions in your profile, and put your top answers on your website FAQ. | Google is replacing the public Q&A on Maps with an AI "Ask" feature. Business owners can still answer existing questions in the profile dashboard. |
Do it in this order
- Fix the name and category first. These describe what your business is. Remove anything from the name that isn't on your signage.
- Set the service area. Only suburbs and regions you'd actually drive to for a job.
- Build the services list. Go to your Business Profile, select Edit services, add the suggested services that fit, then add custom ones. Add a short description to each.
- Rewrite the description. Use the template below. Keep it under 750 characters, with no links, prices or "specials".
- Turn on the review habit. Copy your review link and QR code (Read reviews > Get more reviews, on a computer) and send it after every job.
- Check it on your phone. Search your business name on Google Maps and read the profile the way a customer would.

FAQ
- What category should a pest control business choose on Google?
- Choose the most specific primary category that describes what the business is, which for most pest controllers is "Pest control service". Google recommends using as few categories as possible and choosing ones that complete the sentence "This business IS a…".
- Can I put my website link or prices in my Google Business Profile description?
- No. Google's guidelines say the description can't contain links of any type and shouldn't focus on promotions, prices or sales. Put your website in the website field.
- How long can a Google Business Profile description be?
- Up to 750 characters. Put the most important points (who you help, main services and area) at the start, because the full text is often cut off until someone taps to see more.
- Should a mobile pest controller show their home address?
- If customers don't come to your premises, set a service area and hide the street address. Google's guidelines say service-area businesses should hide their business address, for example a business run from a home address.
- What happened to Questions and Answers on Google Business Profile?
- Google is replacing the public Q&A on Maps with an AI-powered "Ask" feature that answers from your profile and reviews. A Google Product Specialist said in December 2025 that owners can still answer existing questions in the profile dashboard. Put your most common answers on your website FAQ as well.
- Do these tips guarantee better rankings?
- No. They make your profile accurate and complete, which is the part you control. Where you appear depends on many factors, and LocalePulse doesn't promise rankings or bookings.
